Published on | Source
"The King and the Clown" has broken yet another box office record.
The Korean movie has now attracted the most number of viewers in the shortest amount of time.
The previous record holder was "Taegukgi", which sold 11.7 million tickets.
Directed by Lee Joon-ik, "The King and the Clown" touches upon the taboo topic of homosexuality, focusing on the relationship of two royal jesters, during the Joseon Dynasty.
But industry insiders attribute the movie's popularity, to its sensitive handling of the issue, as well as its extravagant costumes, and traditional acrobatics on a tight rope.
The blockbuster premiered, last December, and the success of the low-budget film, has surprised industry experts.
