A combination of art, performance and film, 'Cine Magician', sets to take the stage of the US and Japan

"I have a lot to show to the world". "In the 21st century, there is no need to classify genres dealt by artists. In the process of turning ideas into a reality, performance and film converge with arts beyond the framework of pictures and sculptures", said artist Jung Yeon-doo who carries out artistic performance around the globe.

Cine Magician, a mixture of art, performance and film, is young artist Jung (aged 40)'s new work. It will be displayed in the world's art circles in the second half of this year, including that of Japan and the US. "Lee Eun-gyeol, a Korean magician, shows performance while the audiences watching Lee's show will be videotaped in real time to be seen on the screen behind the stage. This is a combination of movie and art", artist Jung introduced his work before journalists on Oct. 26 prior to his departure. "The audiences become characters of a film. Also what is shown are 'Black Man' who is visible but is not caught on camera, the distance between consciousness and reality resulted from prevalent magic tricks, fictional reality and extreme tense", he added.

Selected as 'Artist of 2007' by National Museum of Contemporary Art, artist Jung was on the spotlight once again when MoMa (The Museum of Modern Art) purchased his work last year to collect it. Following this, he emerged as a new talent in the art circle, winning 'Young Artist of Today', an award presented by the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism.
His new work is slated to be displayed officially at the 'International Festival for Arts and Media Yokohama 2009' late this month in Japan. The completed version will be unveiled at Performa in New York in Nov.

'Performa' is an annual art festival held in New York in Nov. for 20 days with participation of 150 performance institutes. Jung is among the 10 teams selected by the festival. His works will be displayed at the Smithsonian Gallery of Art in Washington DC at the end of this year and next Feb.
He is the only Korean artist whose works are exhibited at the gallery which provides an overview of contemporary art of Asia except for artist Baek Nam-jun. In addition to this, his works will be displayed at galleries in Huston until next Jan. and in Santa Barbara in May and Emmanuel Perrotin gallery in France in June.

The French gallery exhibits world renowned artists such as Damien Hirst of the UK and Takashi Murakami of Japan. Jung said, "centered on daily life, my new works are of various genres which I made with great care and sincerity".
