The festival, which runs from May 31 through June 7, features a variety of films by female directors and producers from around the world.

"Faces Places", a documentary co-directed by Belgian-born French filmmaker Agnès Varda and acclaimed photographer JR, was chosen as the opening film.

To mark its 20th anniversary, this year's festival has two additional competition sections for feature films. Eight international films and five domestic films will vie for the awards.

A special screening of four films starring the late veteran Korean actress Choi Eun-hee will also take place on June 6.
