It's Monday and it's the beginning of a new week. Today, our Michelle Kim joins us for our regular arts and culture segment and I hear she has news about a movie and the latest on the Emmys.
Hello Michelle
[Reporter : ] Hello Conn-young
So what do you have for us today[Reporter : ] The new Oliver Stone thriller "Savages" has been earning solid reviews in the U.S. for doing what he does best -- provoke and entertain. The film is set to be released in Korea on November 1st. Take a look.
The s tars of "Savages" were in Paris last week to promote the film, directed by three-time Oscar winner Oliver Stone, who is known for films such as "Platoon", "JFK" and "Born on the Fourth of July".
Based on author Don Winslow's book of the same name, the film follows two Southern California marijuana growers and the woman they both love. The three are peacefully going about their life, until a Mexican drug cartel moves in and s tarts a war.
Actress Sala Hayek said she identifies with what the film's title represents.
[Interview : Salma Hayek, Actress] "Of course, if you're a rebel at heart, you'll love this, and I am a rebel at heart. So this idea of not being controlled, being untamed and being free and being a savage and going to your roots, I like that".
Actor John Travolta said that he enjoyed the multi-facted character he plays, but admitted he wouldn't necessarily want to be his friend.
[Interview : John Travolta, Actor] "You know, I've never had to like the people I play but I've always had to like playing them. Always, I've always had to enjoy them. I loved playing Dennis, but I wouldn't hang out with him".
The film opens in Korea on November 1st.

It looks like quite an intense film that's certainly not suitable for children! What are the critics saying
[Reporter : ] Well, the reviews seem to be mixed.
Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times says it's a "battle between good and evil, you could say, except that everyone in it is evil".
Kenneth Turan, the film critic for the Los Angeles Times, says Stone's "weakness for bloody excesses of all sorts undermines much of his good work".
And A.O. Scott, critic for the New York Times, says that it's a "feverish, fully baked, half-great adaptation" of the novel on which it is based, but that the "sumptuousness of the movie is among its chief delights".
Interesting. Well, it doesn't sound like it's going to be much different from other action films that we've seen in the past.
[Reporter : ] It really isn't. Despite the great cast and director, I don't think the film will satisfy audiences.
Yes, and it will be interesting to see how Korean audiences react when it opens here. And now, what else do you have for us

The other awards show, which is coming up this weekend, is considered the main event, with awards for best drama, comedy, acting and directing.
