Author Hwang Sok-young Nominated for Man Booker Int'l Prize

Novelist Hwang Sok-young has been included in the long list for this year's Man Booker International Prize for his novel "At Dusk". He is only the second Korean writer to be considered for the prize after Han Kang, who won it in 2016 and was nominated in 2018.

The prize, created in 2005, is awarded to international authors for works translated into English.

Also among the 13 authors on the long list this year are Annie Ernaux of France, Marion Poschmann of Germany and Olga Tokarczuk of Poland.

First published in Korea in 2015, "At Dusk" looks at the country's rapid industrialization and urbanization from the perspectives of a famous architect and a young female director. The novel has been translated into English and French, and won the Emile Guimet Prize for Asian Literature last year.

The six short-listed finalists will be announced on April 9 and the winner on May 21.
