Which song comes to your mind when you think of Korea?
If "Arirang" is the only song, there will soon be another, as the Corea Image Communication Institute (CICI) is launching a new song, titled "Four Seasons of Love".
The song will be officially launched in Seoul on May 24 in the presence of non-native Korean speakers including foreign diplomats and business representatives. And the ceremony will be accompanied by a singing contest.
Choi Jung-wha, president of CICI, a non-profit organization under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said "By singing the Korean song, I think they can learn about Korea faster", when asked why she is hosting the singing contest.
Choi is also a professor of interpretation and translation in the French language at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
The organization commissioned the song to an architect and musician Yang Jin-seok, who composed the lyrics and music, and a popera singer Woo Jung-hoon sang it. It took five months to come into being.
The song will be available both in English and in Korean, and will go on sale as part of Woo's new album. CICI will also post the song on its website and on YouTube.
The launching ceremony will take place at the residence of German Ambassador to Korea Hans-Ulrich Seidt, who is a member of Korea Supporters, a group of supporters for CICI.
Contestants will include Singaporean Ambassador to Korea Peter Tan Hai Chuan, wife of the Irish Ambassador to Korea Mary Mcgillis-McKee, President of Zeullig Pharma Korea Christophe Piganiol, Executive Vice President of Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation Kim Yong-yeon and Head of Bureau Veritas Korea Joseph Yang.
Overall, 70 guests are expected to attend the ceremony, an official at CICI told The Korea Times.
Founded in 2003, CICI has brought together a group of experts to brainstorm innovative methods to promote Korea to the international audience.
Among its noteworthy achievements was Culture 20 that was held last September. Held two months before the G20 Summit, Culture 20 invited international figures from G20 member countries for a Korean educational program in Seoul.
