Production company Epic Storm announced on the 30th that scheduling has been confirmed for the director survival variety program "Directors' Arena". The show is set to air on the ENA channel in the first half of next year.
"Directors' Arena" was conceived to discover the next generation of directors in step with the rapid growth of the short-drama market. Directors selected through an open call will submit short dramas and compete against one another. Works that advance to the final round will be produced as official short dramas and released on a new platform by Lezhin Entertainment.
Film director Lee Byeong-heon-I of "Extreme Job" and actor Cha Tae-hyun will appear as panelists. Along with other industry professionals, they will provide mentoring and advice to emerging directors.
Short dramas are content produced with a running time of approximately 90 to 120 seconds per episode. Epic Storm stated, "We chose a survival format to broaden the base of the short-drama market", adding, "We hope this will serve as a turning point for directing talent to emerge and for short dramas to establish themselves as an independent creative genre".
Applications to participate will be accepted through the official ENA website until the 23rd of next month.
