Synopsis
Five years ago, Soon-im, who fried chicken every day to support her family, collapsed. Yeong-joo, who suddenly inherited her mother-in-law's fried chicken restaurant, is struggling to care for her husband, Chang-wook, a film director in name only but practically unemployed and with no financial resources. Her daughter, Yoon-jin, is obsessed with vampire cosplay, and her father-in-law, Man-cheol, a Vietnam War veteran who lost a leg in the war. And her mother-in-law, Soon-im, who has developed dementia, is struggling to keep up.
One day, Soon-im disappears from a senior daycare center and is found on the highway in the middle of the night. The center, which had been providing daytime care, receives a sudden announcement that they can no longer care for her, who has begun wandering. Man-cheol and Chang-wook don't care. Yeong-joo suddenly proposes a family trip to celebrate Soon-im's birthday. Chang-wook, who has an important engagement with a Chinese film investor, objects, but Yeong-joo is as resolute as ever. The family of five finally boards an old van and cruises along the late autumn highway, but their long-awaited family trip goes awry. Annoyed by the ridiculousness of the old van, which crawls like a snail on the highway, Chang-wook eventually gets into an altercation with another driver, and in the midst of it all, Man-cheol suddenly reveals a secret. It's the real purpose of the trip, which Yeong-joo thought she alone knew: to drop Soon-im off at a nursing home...
