Former Culture Minister Lee Honored by French

Former culture minister Lee Chang-dong, who is a movie director and novelist, has received the Legion d'honneur from the French government.

The French Embassy in Seoul said Friday that its government has decided to present Lee with the Chevalier (Knight) order in recognition of his contribution to maintaining the screen quota to promote cultural diversity as a cultural minister.

The Legion d'honneur, translated as the "legion of honor", is the premier order of France established by Napoleon Bonaparte and awarded to civilians who have made significant contributions to society.

The order was delivered at the embassy by French Culture Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, now visiting Korea to sign an agreement to collaborate with Korea in film production.
