"When performing as one of Gal-Gal-Ii brothers, thanks to my protruding teeth, I enjoyed popularity. Now thanks to my external features I've got a part in a musical".
This is the story of gagman Park Joon-hyung (age 35) who performs as Michol in the family musical 'Dooly, the Baby Dinosaur' opening at Art Theater, Lotte World in Seoul on July 24. "Michol is the funniest and most entertaining one among characters who appear with Dooly in 'Dooly, the Baby Dinosaur", said Park in a press call on 23rd, one day before the musical's premiere. "Whenever Dooly is in danger Michol rushes to rescue him".
It had been serialized in Bomulsum, manhwa (comics) magazine, for 10 years since 1983. It was reborn as TV animation in 1987 and enjoyed huge popularity before it being recreated as a new TV series last year.
"I read it during my childhood. And the most impressive scene was that Dooly descends from the time machine with aliens from Golduki Star", said Kang Seung-won, artistic director of the musical. "We cannot help but love Dooly who searches new and lost friends in our society. He is a truly naughty character of Korea", he pointed out why the character is popular in Korea. In fact, the scene he mentioned has been ranked first among best scenes of Korean comics in a survey conducted by the Korea Creative Content Agency.
In the meantime, singer Choi Ho-sup and gagman Choi Kook are cast as Ko Gil-dong who picks on Dooly. "Park, my senior, who has watched me, recommends me to the role of Ko gil-dong to the staff, saying that I know one who really resembles Ko", said Choi Kook. "This character is somewhat complicated and difficult to understand "he added "Ko could be a bad guy or warm-hearted. It is a lot more difficult to play as Ko than expected".
