Gangnam Style Debunks U.S. Culture Myth: Financial Times Editorial

The year's global smash hit song "Gangnam Style" by PSY has debunked the myth that U.S. pop culture dominates the world.
This is according to an editorial in the Financial Times by Christopher Caldwell, who wrote that America could be in for a shock if it continues to see itself as a nation of creative geniuses.
Caldwell noted that "Gangnam Style" wasn't sung in English, and yet garnered more than one billion views on YouTube, a first for any artist.
He added that until now, the U.S. benefited from the power of English as the global language, and said it quote "dumbed down" cultural contents so that they struck a common chord with a variety of nationalities.
Another allure had been the national wealth and glamor of U.S. celebrities.
But Caldwell warned that producers and venture capitalists may now turn their focus elsewhere, due in part to the success of Gangnam Style.
