According to JoyNews24 on February 10th, Gong Seung-yeon recently received an offer to appear in the drama "Whale Star" and is currently reviewing it.
"Whale Star", which tells the story of a "Little Mermaid" set in 1926 Gyeongseong (old Seoul), is based on the webtoon of the same name that was serialized from 2019 to 2021. Set against the backdrop of the Japanese occupation and the Korean independence movement, it depicts the story of Kang Eui-hyeon, a man who devotes everything to his country, and Heo Soo-ah, a woman who risks her life to protect him.
The original webtoon was recognized for its artistic merit when it won the Presidential Award at the 2021 Korea Content Awards. Even before the drama adaptation was officially confirmed, fans were actively engaged in dream-casting discussions.
Gong Seung-yeon has been offered the role of Yoon-hwa, the daughter of a pro-Japanese family in Gunsan where Soo-a works as a maid. Among the many servants in the household, Yoon-hwa uniquely cherishes Soo-a and serves as a spiritual pillar who greatly influences Soo-a's actions.
Previously, Mun Ka-young was offered the role of Heo Soo-ah, Choi Wooshik the role of Kang Eui-hyeon, and Heo Nam-jun the role of Song Hae-soo. It has been reported that after much consideration, they decided to join the project. The drama will be directed by Hur Jin-ho, known for "Christmas in August" and "The Last Princess". Filming is set to primarily take place in Gunsan, with production gearing up for a spring shoot.
Gong Seung-yeon will also star as Ryeo-eun in the film "Number One", set for release on the 11th, where she shares a sweet and poignant romantic chemistry with Choi Wooshik. Attention is now focused on whether the two will reunite in "Whale Star".
In addition to "Number One", Gong Seung-yeon is set to showcase her elegant and refined charm as Queen Dowager Yoon I-rang in the highly anticipated MBC drama "Perfect Crown", scheduled to air in April.
