[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Click Your Heart" Episodes 5-7 Final
By William Schwartz | Published on
Ju-ho (played by Baek Zuho) is Min-ah's ex-boyfriend (geez she has an ex-boyfriend already?) who constantly gets into fights, but means well. Chan-hee (played by Kang Chan-hee) is an unnaturally smily and upbeat young man who dances around Min-ah offering random reassurance. The B Path of "Click Your Heart" pairs Min-ah with one of these two, and mild spoilers, it turns out that one such ending has some rather...otherworldly implications.

The tunnel vision nature of the "choose your own romance" framing device is at times fascinating and weird. The cut-off point to whether Min-ah gets together with Ju-ho or Chan-hee hinges less on her actions and more how Min-ah chooses to interpret Ju-ho's desire to speak again. Given full context, Ju-ho comes off very well. However, when Chan-hee offers his opinion, well, while the advice might be unsolicited, it isn't wrong, or even necessarily selfish.
That's the main factor distinguishing Ju-ho and Chan-hee. Ju-ho is a fairly intensive boyfriend because he's passionate, whereas Chan-hee gives the impression of being a guy who just likes to have fun and examines people's shoes just as a force of habit. While Ju-ho's more negative qualities are such that he has to be really forward in order to get another chance with Min-ah, Chan-hee's charms are such that he could win Min-ah over passively, given enough time. Which he does get, considering it takes him an entire extra year to become Min-ah's boyfriend compared to the other three guys.
The contrast is similar to what we got with Ro-woon and Da-won, although it's still not perfect. Ro-woon was a defender while Ju-ho is a provoker. Ju-ho has gone on just being Min-ah's friend for a very long time with no results, whereas Chan-hee gets her to warm up almost immediately. It's all rather complicated to consider how even when the characters in "Click Your Heart" feel like archetypes, the subtle differences make them very easy to distinguish from one another.
I am, possibly, giving a tad too much credit to a web drama that's pretty unashamedly dedicated to its gimmick. You could just watch three episodes and go to sail with your favorite ship, yet at every ending "Click Your Heart" begs that simple question- what if Min-ah gets together with someone else instead? Aren't you even a little bit curious? I have to admit, I was curious enough to want to see "Click Your Heart" through to the end, so that's something at least.
