[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Triangle - Drama" Episode 24

It's fortunate that the goons working for the good guys are more competent than the ones working for the bad guys. Honestly it's pretty ridiculous- it took an entire episode of bloviating for them to manage one incompetent assassination attempt. By contrast, Yeong-dal's team is immediately on the case for an effective retaliation that pretty much nips most of the gang-related conflict in the drama right in the bud.

So, if solving the problem was that easy, what do they spend the rest of the hour doing? Well, mostly it's at a funeral. Not a funeral for anybody important, don't worry. It took me a moment to try and remember who the dead person was, given that they didn't show up for that long and have remained mostly invisible since that initial appearance anyway. Which is odd considering this person actually is pretty important to the drama's core conflict.

Yes, it's another one of those moments. I don't know why "Triangle - Drama" keeps thinking it can wrangle emotion from situations about characters we know almost nothing about, especially when it spends so much time setting up other completely unrelated situations instead. The only saving grace here is that the grief the characters feel is pretty legitimate, even if the timing was poorly conveyed. And at the same time, it's still not really relevant enough to change the apparent course of fate they've charted for themselves.

This episode as a whole does manage to get some credit, at least, for having something actually happen. Once the funeral's done with we also get some turnabouts and reorganizations of allegiances. We're still not any closer to having the whole deal with Yang-ha resolved, his behavior at the funeral notwithstanding. It really needs to be noted that the question of whether or not Yang-ha will turn is the only remaining essential one of the drama- and it's been stretched out ever since the characters first figured it out.

The most disappointing part of all this is that the payoffs really don't match up with the buildups. It's possible that this could be an effective final stretch if some of the wonkier plot points were patched up and the funeral was an event we had been given some reason to believe was going to happen from a long time ago. Unfortunately, "Triangle - Drama" just doesn't seem to be that interested in building up an effective continuity. The result is a drama whose very incomprehensibility doesn't even seem that surpririsng anymore.
