[HanCinema's News] "12.12: The Day" Takes Top Prize at Korea Film Producers Association Awards

On December 5th, the Korean Film Producers Association announced the winners for its eleventh annual awards ceremony to be held later this month. The historical military film "12.12: The Day" has won the top prize, its relevance all the more striking in light of South Korea's recent coup attempt. Director Kim Seong-su is also being honored as Best Director thanks to his work on the film, for which he was also one of many contributing screenwriters.

Jang Jae-hyeon won Best Screenplay for his work on the occult horror film "Exhuma" from earlier this year, which he also directed. Kim Go-eun of "Exhuma" was also honored as Best Lead Actress. Cho Jung-seok was named Best Lead Actor for his comedic role in "Pilot" from the summer. Ji Chang-wook of "Revolver" won Best Supporting Actor, while Yeom Hye-ran won Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Citizen of a Kind" from the start of the year.

Lee Mo-gae and Lee Sung-hwan of "Exhuma" won for Best Cinematography and Best Lighting. Seo Sung-kyung of "Exhuma" and "Wonderland" won for Best Art Direction and Kim Sun-min of "Kim Dae-jung on the Road" won Best Editing. Lee Jae-jin-III of "12.12: The Day" won Best Score, while Kim Byung-in of "Exhuma" won Best Sound. Yoo Sang-seob Jang Han-seung of "I, The Executioner" won for Best Technical Award for their martial arts work.

The Best New Director Award was won by Oh Jung-min of "House of the Seasons" and Jeong Ji-hye-I of "Jeong-sun" jointly. Steve Sanghyun Oh of "Love in the Big City" won Best New Actor. These results summarize the ballots of members of the Korean Film Producers Association. The formal awards ceremony will take place on December 17th at 7:00 PM at IndieSpace in Seoul with a live simulcast on YouTube. Kim Gyu-ri will serve as the master of ceremonies.
