According to figures released by the Korean Film Council, "Alienoid" has opened in first place at the South Korean box office. The fantasy action film registered 158,162 admissions in its first day of availability, July 20th. The story about seemingly immortal Taoist wizards is the first domestic film to take first place at the South Korean box office since "The Witch : Part 2. The Other One" on June 21st. "Alienoid" is the latest from famed South Korean film director Choi Dong-hoon.

Compared to his previous films, "Alienoid" exceeded the 136,950 first day of admissions for "Tazza: The High Rollers" in 2006 and the 151,251 first day admissions for "JEON WOO CHI : The Taoist Wizard" in 2009. However, "Alienoid" falls quite short of the 472,814 admissions for "Assassination" in 2015. "Alienoid" is closely followed by the latest Minions film from Hollywood in second place with 146,911 admissions. Word-of-mouth will likely determine which movie wins the weekend box office.
