[HanCinema's News] "Broker" Tops Early Film Reservations
By William Schwartz | Published on
According to figures released by the Korean Film Council, "Broker" is officially leading early films reservations, suggesting that the acclaimed Cannes Film Festival selection will have a strong first weekend. "Broker" first hit the number one spot on June 6th. As of this writing, the baby box themed sentimental drama holds 37.2% of all reservations compared to 22.5% for "The Roundup" in second place.

While these are good early numbers for "Broker" they are unlikely to prevent "The Roundup" from hitting the ten million viewer mark in its fourth weekend. Whether the more aesthetically sophisticated "Broker" will have as much long-term interest as the action genre cop flick remains to be seen. However, there is ample precedent for Cannes Film Festival acclaimed movies to do well at the South Korean box office, as was seen with "Parasite" in 2019.
