[HanCinema's News] "Devils" Emerges as Surprise Hit for Netflix
By William Schwartz | Published on
The theatrical release of the "Devils" earlier this year attracted little attention. The crime thriller only earned 81,521 admissions since its box office premiere on July 5th. But where "Devils" faltered in theaters, the film has achieved surprising popularity on Netflix, ascending to the top of the South Korean Netflix charts on October 19th. "Devils" only surrendered its top position on October 27th with the release of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" on the platform in the South Korean region.

"Devils" still maintains its position in second place. Due to the seemingly limited interest in the film, Netflix only licensed it for distribution in its native South Korea. In general Netflix doesn't distribute very many South Korean films outside of South Korea proper, although it does do so for South Korean films that are directly produced by Netflix. "Ballerina" was the last such film, while. "Believer 2" will be the next such title, to be released on November 17th.
