[HanCinema's News] "Devils Stay" Sets Record for Official South Korean Horror Film Releases in International Markets
By William Schwartz | Published on
In 2018, the social media themed horror film "Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum" was sold to 47 different international markets at the time of its release, a record for the genre. It lost this record for a South Korean horror film when "The Medium" in 2021 was sold to 50 different international markets, although whether a film cast and crewed largely by Thai people can truly be called a South Korean film is a separate question. In any case, "Devils Stay" has broken that record against, releasing in 54 markets.

According to its distributor Showbox, "Devils Stay" will be released in Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, and the United States among other territories. So far four regions have confirmed release dates. "Devils Stay" premiered in Taiwan via Movie Cloud on November 22nd, will premiere in Indonesia via Prima and North America via Well Go on December 6th, and will premiere in Vietnam on December 13th via Lotte Vietnam.
The Japanese distributor, Clockworks, has also made public statements about its confidence in the occult horror film. A representative from Prima specifically cited "Exhuma" as a reason for their optimism about the project. The foreign sales team at Showbox stated that importers were particularly interested in "Devils Stay" because of a Variety coverage about "Exhuma" as introduction to the genre. "Devils Stay" has earned 190,398 admissions since its November 14th premiere in South Korea.
