The shocking death of Lee Sun-kyun on December 27th has rocked the South Korean entertainment industry. At his memorial service on the morning of December, many of his collaborators discussed their career and friendships with him. Moon Jeong-hee stated on person, and via social media, that she had lost a friend who she had met at the age of eighteen and known for thirty years. The two had been classmates at the Korea National University of Arts.

Moon Jeong-hee described him as the boss who always strived to create a supportive atmosphere. Moon Jeong-hee went on to suggest that Lee Sun-kyun must have struggled immensely with a personality like this, and hoped that he had peace and happiness now. Moon Jeong-hee stated that she would forever love him as her mister. Ha Do-kwon likewise called Lee Sun-kyun his brother, to stay strong, to send him off for the new year...but now what. Ha Do-kwon lamented no longer being able to.
Lee Sun-kyun's body was discovered near Waryong Park in Seoul. Lee Sun-kyun had earlier left an ominous note to his manager, who was unable to get a hold of Lee Sun-kyun again before his death. Lee Sun-kyun's agency requested fake news not be spread in the wake of the devastating news. Lee Sun-kyun had been under investigation for dealing in illicit drugs at the time of his death, although it remains unclear what, if any, relation this might have had to his death.
Lee Sun-kyun had continued to protest his innocence, and there had been no recent major developments in the case. Despite the memorial service being closed to all but close friends and family, Lee Sun-kyun's agency had difficulty preventing YouTubers from secretly attempting to gain access by researching possible venues. The final burial for Lee Sun-kyun will take place in his hometown of Jeolla province on December 29th.
