On September 12th, the Korean Film Council released figures showing that despite "I, The Executioner" not yet being in South Korean theaters, the action film has already broken 70% of all ticket reservations. At approximately 12:30 PM South Korean time, 490,054 ticket sales for the film had already been confirmed just via early reservations. "I, The Executioner" has no competition at the South Korean box office in its opening week.

But Korean Chuseok weekend next week is the film's prime target- Korean Chuseok begins on September 17th this year, and is a traditional boom market for South Korean films. However, no other major films aside from "I, The Executioner" will be released in time for that holiday this year. "I, The Executioner" has been a highly anticipated movie for quite some time, and no other distributor appears to be willing to try and compete with it.
"I, The Executioner" stars Hwang Jung-min in a reprise of his character from "Veteran" in 2015, working a new crime with a rookie detective played by Jung Hae-in. "Veteran" earned 13,414,484 admissions nine years ago. "I, The Executioner" opens in South Korean theaters on September 13th. It is currently playing at the Toronto International Film Festival.
