[HanCinema's News] Jung Man-sik and Shin Seung-wan Confirmed for "I, The Executioner"

Jung Man-sik

New stills for "I, The Executioner" confirmed two returning actors from "Veteran" which is the blockbuster's prequel. Jung Man-sik will reprise his role as Chief Jeon, and Shin Seung-wan will also reprise his role as Reporter Park. The callbacks to "Veteran" are noticeable, and give a strong indication ahead of the film's release that "I, The Executioner" is fully dedicated to the worldbuilding of the first film, and not just its lead actor Hwang Jung-min.

In the previous movie, Chief Jeon played a subordinate to the corporate villain played by Yoo Ah-in. In the new movie, whatever his broader motivation, Chief Jeon can be seen brandishing a knife against Detective Yoon, played by Kim Shi-hoo in both movies. Reporter Park, who had a proper news job in the first film, has moved onto YouTube in the sequel, scheming to provoke the common population in ways more appropriate for the modern day.

"I, The Executioner" does feature one new character of note- rookie detective Park, played by Jung Hae-in, who will assist Hwang Jung-min's Detective Seo as they track down a serial killer. "I, The Executioner" will be released in South Korean theaters on September 13th. Distribution rights to "I, The Executioner" in the United States are held by Blue Fox Entertainment though they have not yet announced an official theatrical release.
