[HanCinema's News] Kang Ha-neul Hopes to Recreate Early Box Office Success With "Love Reset"
By William Schwartz | Published on
Though a major name now, Kang Ha-neul was relatively unknown ten years ago, still in the midst of minor roles as he slowly moved his way up to second lead status. His first major success was in the feature film "Twenty" in 2015 as one of the leading members of the ensemble with over three million admissions. "Midnight Runners" in 2017 was an even bigger success with over five and a half million admissions. Now with "Love Reset" Kang Ha-neul hopes to elevate another project with low expectations.

Of course, many of Kang Ha-neul's projects have not met with unusually strong success. And with a release date of October 3rd, right after a massively competitive Korean Thanksgiving weekend that sees the release of three big films, "Love Reset" could struggle to even lead in its opening weekend. However, neither "Cobweb" nor "Road to Boston" nor "Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman" are romances, while "Love Reset" is.
Much of the film's success may come down to chemistry. Kang Ha-neul's leading lady Jung So-min has a strong record of her own- but not in romantic comedies specifically, nor at the box office. Still, "Love Reset" has a charming concept of a couple already partway through one divorce falling in love again due to amnesia, with their families opposing the union all the while. Fans of the two actors, if no one else, will likely be satisfied with the project.
