[HanCinema's News] Kang Tae-oh Makes Special Appearance in "Thirty Nine"
By William Schwartz | Published on
The television drama "Thirty Nine" concluded its run on March 31st with ratings of 8.122%. In between all the bustle of the usual closing remarks, a final cameo appearance was lost in the shuffle. Kang Tae-oh had a two minute appearance as a part-time employee at the restaurant run by the character played by Lee Tae-hwan. Kang Tae-oh's character is also a friend to Lee Tae-hwan's character, showing attitude beyond what would normally be allowed to an employer from an employee.

The role was prompted in-continuity by a subtitution situation that also involved the character played by Kim Ji-hyun-II. Behind the scenes, Kang Tae-oh's appearance was somewhat more complicated. Kang Tae-oh, like Lee Tae-hwan, is represented by Man of Creation. Through this cameo appearance, the agency wished to show that they considered all their actors to be considered members of the same family.
But Kang Tae-oh also had a prior relationship with director Kim Sang-ho-III. The two of them had worked together on the sports drama "Run On" from last year, where Kang Tae-oh was the second lead while Kim Sang-ho-III was co-director. Purportedly, Kim Sang-ho-III immediately approved the request for a cameo as soon as he received it. Kang Tae-oh will next appear as the second lead in "Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo" which is expected to begin airing in the first half of this year.
