"KIM Jiyoung: Born 1982" has just broken the 2.6 million viewer mark in South Korea. The movie has performed strongly over the last two weeks off of weak expectations.

The explicitly feminist themed adaptation of a popular novel has both brought in new fans of the book, but also expanded on it with new episodes, such as a sequence involving the title character's favorite kind of bread. The author of the novel has expressed approval of these addendums.
"KIM Jiyoung: Born 1982" hit the million viewer mark at five days. At eight days, the movie had earned enough box office revenue to pay off its production budget. At eleven days it hit the two million viewer mark. From this point onward "KIM Jiyoung: Born 1982" is unlikely to go much farther than the three million mark in the face of new competition this weekend, but it will still have the secondary markets, and was already sold to foreign markets ahead of its domestic release.
