[HanCinema's News] Korea Contents Association Holds Change the World Awards

On December 17th, the Korea Content Association (KOCCA) held its first ever Change The World awards to recognize socially conscious programming. Two major television dramas of the past year were honored at this ceremony. First, "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" was given an award honoring its work toward combating discrimination in society. "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" deals with the titular lawyer, a woman on the autistic spectrum in her first year as a practicing attorney.

While the honoring award statement chiefly honored the show's premise, it also mentioned that the episodic nature of "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" allowed the legal drama to explore a large number of other relevant social topics. "Our Blues" received an empathy award, suited for its different approach. While "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" dealt with social topics from a more legal perspective, "Our Blues" handled them from a personal social perspective.
Neighborly relationships, teen pregnancy, and the lives of the disabled were among the topics cited as handled well by "Our Blues" earlier this year. Both "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" and "Our Blues" were popular in the mainstream this year. "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" had a ratings high of 17.5% in its final episode, while "Our Blues" had a ratings high of 14.6% in its final episode.
