[HanCinema's News] Lee Hanee Talks About "Killing Romance"

In a recent interview, Lee Hanee discussed her movie "Killing Romance" which came out this past April 14th. In comedy film, she plays the role of Yeo-rae, a top star who is dreaming of making a big comeback. She had retired from work due to being tired by negative comments, and moved to an island home with her wealthy husband, played by Lee Sun-kyun. Despite her initial love for him, however, Yeo-rae finds that in domestic life he is both crazy and childish.

Lee Hanee claimed that she laughed a lot when she first read the scenario. But that was just in text, and Lee Hanee was curious whether it would still be as funny when filmed. Lee Hanee compared the freshness of the script to that of "Extreme Job" and said that this comparison in regard to moving laughs from text to screen further enticed her curiousity. Lee Hanee also claimed to have been a fan of director Lee Wonsuk ever since "How to Use Guys with Secret Tips" back in 2013.

Lee Hanee was convinced that movies made by director Lee Wonsuk would go down in Korean film history due to their unique design. Lee Hanee said that every scene in "Killing Romance" was difficult, and that doing any scene in person was a challenge, with her constantly wondering how they should do a scene. She felt that many of the stupid things they ended up doing made the movie more fun.

Lee Hanee noted that there was no trouble working up the right energy with her co-stars. She had last appeared with Lee Sun-kyun in "Pasta" thirteen years ago and with Gong Myung in "Extreme Job" much more recently than that, and they were easily able to support each other as actors. In personal development, Lee Hanee mentioned making great pains to maintain a body weight of forty-nine kilograms throughout filming as she considered this critical to her character's look.

At the press screening for "Killing Romance" Lee Hanee had been observed crying. When asked to explain this, Lee Hanee said that she was crying from embarassment, because she personally thinks of Gong Myung as being her younger brother, and his character in the movie was exposited as a very pathetic one. "Killing Romance" has earned 125,507 admissions at the South Korean box office in its first nine days according to figures released by the Korean Film Council on April 23rd.
