[HanCinema's News] "Love in the Big City - Drama" Confirms All Eight Episodes to Be Released on October 21st

A recent advertising campaign for "Love in the Big City - Drama" from TVING has confirmed that the romantic melodrama will premiere all eight of its episodes on the same day, October 21st. Previously, while October 21st had been the confirmed premiere date, TVING had not made it clear how many episodes would be made available on that day and how many would be available in subsequent weeks. Eight episodes of the drama have been produced in total.

The news comes as the "Love in the Big City" film released on October 1st has seen increased interest based on popular recommendations from initial viewers. The movie is currently the second most popular at the South Korean box office. Both the film and the drama are based on the novel of the same title by Park Sang-young. As the book was originally published in serial form, weekly releases seemed likely, but TVING appears to have decided that spoilers are no longer a relevant concern.

Another reason for why "Love in the Big City - Drama" may have elected for a serial release is the complex way the drama was filmed. "Love in the Big City - Drama" adapts four story arcs from the book, and each of these four story arcs has a different director. Song Tae-gyum of "Baby Beside Me" will directed the first two episodes. Hur Jin-ho of "Christmas in August" directed the third and fourth episodes. Hong Ji-young of "New Year Blues" directed the fifth and sixth episodes.

Finally, director Kim Se-in-I of "The Apartment With Two Women" directed the final two episodes. At one point releasing these four stories a week at a time was the plan, but the director, writer, and producers consulted and decided that an immediate contrast, rather than a weekly one, was the best way to demonstrate these alternate takes on genre. The story will span two decades in the life of Nam Yoon-su's character Go-yeong's life.

Three of the men he meets in these episodes also now have names to go with their performers. Kwon-Hyuk-I will play Nam-gyoo, Go-yeong's first love. Na Hyun-woo will play Yeong-soo, his second love. Lastly, Jin Ho-eun will plah Gyoo-ho, who embellishes Go-yeong's love story.
