Hong Sang-soo has emerged as a surprise favorite in the upcoming Buil film awards. His film "Hotel by the River" has been nominated for best film, best cinematography, and best sound. Hong Sang-soo himself was nominated as best director for "Hotel by the River" and Ki Joo-bong from that movie was nominated for best actor. Kim Sae-byuk of "Grass" was nominated for best actress.

The quantity of nominations is surprising, because Hong Sang-soo's films have not come up much at all in most recent awards ceremonies, which have been dominated by the likes of "Parasite" and "Extreme Job". "Parasite" earned nominations for best film and best director Bong Joon-ho, while "Extreme Job" only earned a nod for best director Lee Byeong-heon-I.
"Ode to the Goose", "Dark Figure of Crime", and "Night and Fog In Zona" round out the best picture nominees. Kim Tae-gyoon-I of "Dark Figure of Crime" and Jung Sung-il of "Night and Fog In Zona" were also nominated for best director. The Buil Film Awards are hosted in Busan by the Busan Ilbo newspaper. The awards ceremony will be held on October 4th and help kick off the Busan International Film Festival.
