[HanCinema's News] Original Novel Version of "Anna" Sees Sales Boost in Wake of Drama Version's Release

The currently airing Coupang Play drama "Anna" is based on the novel The Friendly Stranger by Jung Han-ah. Following the drama's release, The Friendly Stranger has surged on bestseller lists, with the new edition highlighting the link to the screen version. In the fourth week of June, when "Anna" first started airing, sales of The Friendly Stranger surged by over 708.3% percent, with sales for the first week of July improving 40.2% on top of that.

An official representative for Kyobo Bookstore noted that this trend is a common one for books which are adapted into scripted shows that are available on OTT platforms. According to sales data the demographic most interested in The Friendly Stranger are women in their thirties, who account for 35.6% of purchases. Next was men in their forties, who accounted for 21% of purchases. Female purchases out number male purchases by a ratio of about seven to three.
