[HanCinema's News] "Peninsula" Passes 2.5 Million Viewer Mark Over the Weekend
By William Schwartz | Published on
In its second week at the South Korean box office, "Peninsula" pushed past the 2.5 million viewer mark to become the second best performing film of the year, a spot which had previously belonged to "Hitman: Agent Jun". However, "Peninsula" fell just short of the 3 million viewer mark even as it led the overall box office. Nevertheless, "Peninsula" will almost certainly breach that number sometime this week, its current tally standing near to 2.9 million viewers.

After this week "Peninsula" has little chance of further penetration, as "Steel Rain 2: Summit" will open on July 29th. According to distributor NEW Entertainment, 2.5 million viewers was considered their break-even point for the 15 million dollar movie. This benchmark was achieved in the 11th day that "Peninsula" was available in South Korean theaters. "Peninsula" is the sequel to the 2016 zombie hit "Train to Busan", albeit without reprising the lead characters in the lead roles.
