[HanCinema's News] Press Conference Held for "Shooting Star"

On April 20th the upcoming tvN drama "Shooting Star" held an online press conference. Director Jamie K Lee was in attendance, as was the principle cast, including Lee Sung-kyung, Kim Young-dae, Yoon Jong-hoon, Kim Yoon-hye, Park Sojin, and Lee Jung-shin. "Shooting Star" deals with the lives of support staff for big stars. The Korean title actually reads, the stars who clean up the poop of the stars.

Director Jamie K Lee leaned into this phrasing, emphasizing that a large number of people do indeed have to clean up the messes of the stars behind the scenes. He credits such support staff for allowing stars to look as glamorous as they do. The script comes from Choi Yeon-soo-II, who has long worked in the management end of the South Korean entertainment industry, which is why director Jamie K Lee thought she was an ideal choice for storyboarding the concept.

Director Jamie K Lee also said that, to help maintain the realism of the script, that "Shooting Star" had many consultations with the actual staff working on the drama itself in regards to best capture the mood of such work. Apparently, their most frequently iterated point was that they needed to feel like they were looking from the side at ongoing events. This feeling of being away from the action is what makes such work tolerable. The actual staff thought that viewers would find that interesting.

Lee Sung-kyung has the leading role in "Shooting Star" as a stylist for the stars. Lee Sung-kyung claimed that the role was a 95% synchronization for her actual personality. Lee Sung-kyung stated that she was immediately drawn to the script in part because she sees her own support staff as being like family, and relished the opportunity to share with the world how important the work they do really is. Lee Sung-kyung also wanted to get across the nuance of their relationships.

Kim Young-dae in the other leading role as a top star described himself as a bit new to the role of such celebrity. "Shooting Star" is his first leading role, with his appearance in "The Penthouse" dramas being what has brought him up to the level of leading man. Kim Young-dae echoed Lee Sung-kyung's statements of sincere gratitude to support staff for their hard work in assisting with his career. "Shooting Star" will begin on April 22nd on tvN in South Korea and on Rakuten Viki worldwide.
