[HanCinema's News] "Queen of Tears" and "Lovely Runner" Lead CJ ENM to Big Second Quarter

The Korea Accounting Standards Board confirmed on August 8th that the South Korean media company CJ ENM posted 850 million dollars in sales in the second quarter of this year. About 25 million dollars of this was profit. Due to the sheer size of the company, there are many factors at play for these numbers. Subscriptions for the TVING service run by CJ ENM are up, and CJ ENM also confirmed delivery of a distribution deal with the American studio Fifth Season.

However, the television division of CJ ENM had an exceptionally strong quarter. They accounted for 250 million dollars of sales and 12 million dollars of the profit- a noticeably better ratio compared to the other divisions. The television dramas "Queen of Tears" and "Lovely Runner" were quite dominant during the second quarter of this year, and appear to be the chief reason for the financial success of this division. Baseball and variety show financials are also calculated in the television division.

Mobile games and music are other divisions making an appearance in this CJ ENM report. No other contemporaneous dramas or films warranted individual comment. CJ ENM is hoping to expand international operations further- "No Gain No Love" and "Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born" have been singled out for high expectations in regard to worldwide streaming revenue. The film division is also hoping for a strong latter half of the year with "I, The Executioner" in the fall season and "Harbin" in the winter season.
