In the nine days since its release "Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs" has sold four hundred thousand tickets at the South Korean box office.

Though minor compared to the major blockbuster battle between "The Divine Fury" and "Exit - Movie", the steady stream of sales for the South Korean animated movie is surprising for that very same reason. Summer is a bad time for a relatively unknown project to break through at the box office.
But "Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs" is a project that was a long time coming. It took five years to develop the script and another three and a half to finish all the animation. Writer/director Hong Sung-ho has had to build this project up from scratch. So it's no doubt gratifying for the production's all-Korean staff to be so positively received in the theatrical market as well as in social media comments.
