[HanCinema's News] Roh Jeong-eui Shows New Glamorous Dimensions in "Our Beloved Summer"

Though only twenty years old, Roh Jeong-eui is a veteran actress of the South Korean entertainment industry. She made her debut in the first season of "God's Quiz" back in 2010. She started transitioning out of child roles with the film "Fantasy of the Girls" in 2018, obtaining prominent supporting roles with "Kill It" and "The Great Show" in 2019. And now she's appearing as the second female lead in "Our Beloved Summer" on SBS, in a role rather against type.

Roh Jeong-eui plays NJ, an idol celebrity who looks young, vivacious, and blonde, but who's internally lonely and jaded. She gives surprising depth to the role, which has often felt as if it were written for an actual idol playing themselves. Roh Jeong-eui embues NJ with a strong resignation regarding her career path, with a self-enforced cheerfulness that only briefly snaps when she's confronted with petty grievances for which the idol has little patience.
It's also to Roh Jeong-eui's credit that her performance is so distinctive when her character is so often tertiary to the core narrative. Roh Jeong-eui has no confirmed upcoming projects, although it's widely believed that "Our Beloved Summer" has increased her profile as an actress. "Our Beloved Summer" had ratings of 4.1% in its most recent episode, the fourteenth, which aired on January 18th.
