[HanCinema's News] Screenwriter Han Seol-hee Talks About Adapting "Business Proposal"

On March 7th the currently airing SBS drama "Business Proposal" released an interview with the show's screenwriter, Han Seol-hee. Though an established name in the world of South Korean media, Han Seol-hee is known mainly for comedy. Such titles include "All my Love" and "High Kick 3, The Short Legs Counterattack" alongside various seasons of Rude Miss Young-ae. "Business Proposal" is, by contrast, a main network drama, and an adaptation of the popular webtoon of the same title.

According to Han Seol-hee, her job has been to emphasize the comic aspects of the original webtoon to better bring them to life on screen. Han Seol-hee stated that the main appeal of the "Business Proposal" webtoon compared to other contract marriage storylines that abound in fiction is the unique sense of humor. In particular, Han Seol-hee emphasized the need to pull the humor out of bad situations as being critical to the appeal of the story.

Han Seol-hee considered the humor to be so important to the work that she even deliberately deemphasized chemistry as necessary in order to better keep the focus on the jokes. According to Han Seol-hee, the cuteness is critical to making the presentation work, or else there's no real charm. Han Seol-hee also had strong praise for the lead actors Ahn Hyo-seop and Kim Sejeong. Purportedly, they asked constant questions in order to make sure they understood their characters correctly.

Han Seol-hee also expressed gratitude to director Park Seon-ho-I for agreeing to cast Kim Hyun-sook on her recommendation. Han Seol-hee knew the actress from their time together on the Rude Miss Young-ae series of dramas, where Kim Hyun-sook played the title role. Finally, Han Seol-hee emphasized the trifecta of chemistry, laughs, and delicious visuals which was her aim to try and make the viewers happy one hour at a time. "Business Proposal" is currently streaming worldwide on Netflix.
