By William Schwartz | Published on
Recently actor Seo Jae-kyung appeared on an MBN television documentary to discuss his father, Seo Hee-sung. Seo Jae-kyung isn't currently active in entertainment despite appearing in several noteworthy projects well into his twenties. Seo Hee-sung worked principally in stage productions, directing them throughout Seo Jae-kyung's school years. Seo Jae-kyung mentioned having to often go to see his father at work.

In the documentary, Seo Jae-kyung talked about how his father was his lifelong mentor. But that relationship came to an abrupt end in 2010, when Seo Hee-sung died. In response to low blood pressure following a surgery from which he was recovering, Seo Hee-sung was given medication that ended up provoking a heart attack. This prompted a three year lawsuit where Seo Jae-kyung tried to force doctors to admit his father's death was due to a medical error rather than natural causes.
Seo Jae-kyung said that the loss of his father didn't just crush him as a son, but also as an actor, as Seo Hee-sung had been his main encouragement in the field. He is perhaps best known for his role in "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... And Spring" from writer/director Kim Ki-duk where he plays a young monk who is tempted onto a dark path. Seo Jae-kyung said he was haunted by how he lost the chance to tell his father how much he loved him.
