[HanCinema's News] Shillakwon Marks Curious Reputation as Funeral Home of Choice for South Korean Dramas
By William Schwartz | Published on
As far as product placement goes, funerary services are a bit grim for companies to generally want to spotlight. But nestled within the credits of many South Korean dramas, Shillakwon often pops up as a shooting location. Those not familiar with what Shillakwon is may be surprised to learn that funeral scenes in South Korean dramas are filmed in an actual funeral parlor, and Shillakwon is the premiere funerary services brand in South Korea, with fifteen high class facilities across South Korea.

Since the opening of its Gimpo location in 2018, Shillakwon has appeared in sixty South Korean dramas. The Gimpo Shillakwon parlor was the location in "Vincenzo" for the funeral of Yoon Bok-in's character in the sixteenth episode. A Shillakwon parlor was also the location in "Taxi Driver" for the death of Park Geun-hyung's character in the thirteenth episode. "Doctor Cha" and "Marry My Husband" are other South Korean dramas with funeral scenes that took place at Shillakwon.
A spokesperson for Preedlife, the parent company that manages Shillakwon, has stated that they consider South Korean dramas an excellent way to demonstrate the quality of their funerary services. The spokesperson stated that Shillakwon will continue to explore more opportunities to shoot funeral scenes in South Korean dramas in their parlors. So far, with two or three new parlors opening every year, they've seen a fair amount of success in their current business plan.
