[HanCinema's News] "The Gossip" Sold to Ten International Markets
By William Schwartz | Published on
Shortly before its release on June 3rd, the South Korean film "The Gossip" confirmed sales to ten different international markets. "The Gossip" has had neglible online reservations in its opening day, and is not expected to make a meaningful impact at the box office. The sales appear to be a direct result of Park Chan-hee of SF9 having a major role in the ensemble comedy. While no stranger to acting, "The Gossip" will be his first role in a proper film.

That description may be generous, as even the advertising of "The Gossip" describes the movie as a B-grade comedy. But the popularity of streaming services have greatly expanded the reach of such titles. Park Chan-hee also has a leading role in "The Labyrinth" where he will again co-star with veteran actor Jang Gwang, another highly recognizable face in South Korean entertainment who has taken advantage of this market to score more prominent roles.
The countries which now have official distributors for "The Gossip" include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Phillipines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. No release details in those regions is available at this time. NEW Global Contents managed the sales, claiming that the combination of comedy, mystery, and thriller makes "The Gossip" an unpredictable movie which impressed buyers with how fun it was.
