According to figures recently released by the Korean Film Council, the South Korean box office in May of this year brought in eighty million dollars of revenue. Some 64.2% of this revenue was dedicated to domestic South Korean films, and 64.9% of the viewers watched domestic South Korean films. Normally these numbers stand at around 50% but the popularity of "The Roundup: Punishment" throughout May greatly elevated these figures.

Foreign films also had very low figures this month, with earnings only 42.6% and viewers at 36.8% of the prepandemic average.
