[HanCinema's News] Thomas Kretschmann Releases New Stills of "A Taxi Driver"

On December 8th, actor Thomas Kretschmann posted photos of "A Taxi Driver" on his Instagram account. Though that film is now seven years old, Thomas Kretschmann believed that his experiences there are of more contemporary relevance than he had assumed in light of the recent coup attempts in South Korea. The stills in question are of a military blockade scene from the film. It was not immediately clear whether these still images of "A Taxi Driver" had previously been released.

Thomas Kretschmann's exact words, when posting this on Instagram, were "these are set photos from "Taeksi woonjunsa" (A Taxi Driver) 2017, a film about South Korea's past, ...at least, that's what I thought". Thomas Kretschmann is a German actor who has not done any work in South Korean film before appearing in "A Taxi Driver" in a leading role. That film stars Song Kang-ho as the titular taxi driver helping the real-life journalist Jürgen Hinzpeter document the Gwangju Uprising.
"A Taxi Driver" has become a film of increased interest in South Korea as well due to the coup attempts. It is currently the most watched film on the Watcha streaming platform. "12.12: The Day" which documents the 1980 coup from a different perspective has also been the most popular film on Netflix in South Korea. "A Taxi Driver" earned over 12 million domestic admissions in its original box office run.
