On July 23rd, Netflix Korea confirmed via social media that it had acquired the rights to "Wonderland" on its platform this coming August 15th in Korea but July 26 worldwide. The news comes with the film only having had its theatrical premiere on June 5th. "Wonderland" had been highly anticipated- the ambitious sci-fi project about A.I. simulations of loved ones was the first from director Kim Tae-yong in thirteen years. But the science fiction film floundered at the box office, with only 625,362 admissions.

"Wonderland" cost thirteen million dollars to make and fell far short of the 2.9 million admissions needed to beat the break even point. The producers appear to be hoping that swift movement to OTT platforms may help them recoup some of their losses. So far.
