Actors appearing in historical dramas are embroiled in a series of miscasting and 'acting controversy'. The actors on the chopping block are Ahn Eun-jin of the MBC drama "My Dearest", Cho Yi-hyun of the KBS 2TV drama "The Matchmakers" and Kim Dong-jun of the KBS 2TV drama "Korea-Khitan War".

On the 11th, the "Korea-Khitan War" which invested 27 billion won in production, was broadcast for the first time. The "Korea-Khitan War" is the story of King Hyeonjong of Goryeo, who brought Goryeo together with tolerance leadership and led the war against the Khitan to victory, and Kang Gam-chan, his political teacher and commander-in-chief of the Goryeo army.
In the drama, Kim Dong-jun plays Wang-soon, the only dragon son of Goryeo who was kicked out of the palace because of Empress Cheonchu.
Kim Dong-jun, who even shaved his head for this role, expressed a strange life of being chased by assassins, living like a monk, and hiding in the mountains.
However, right after the broadcast, Kim Dong-jun was under controversy over his acting skills and miscasting. His Western appearance, which is not suitable for a historical drama, and his regretful tone that has not yet been applied to a historical drama tone were pointed out.
However, compared to the controversy, the prevailing assessment is that the character was well-played. There are also opinions that it is too early to evaluate something in just two episodes. "Korea-Khitan War" is an epic 32 episodes, so it will not be too late to watch and judge until the middle part.
Cho Yi-hyun, who appeared in "The Matchmakers", was also embroiled in a controversy over her acting skills, as she was criticized for not being able to do historical dramas. "The Matchmakers" is a story about the Joseon Dynasty's widowed husband Sim Jeong-woo and a widowed wife named Jeong Soon-deok who join forces to marry single men and women in the Joseon Dynasty.
Immediately after the broadcast, Cho Yi-hyun was brutally evaluated by viewers for reducing immersion. In addition, there was a review that the widow left her husband early and went through a mid-air war, and the character of "The Matchmakers" seemed too much. Her excessive makeup is also being criticized.
Cho Yi-hyun was also criticized for her awkward historical drama tone, which is considered difficult, and was labeled as 'controversy over her acting skills' by the filmography she had accumulated so far.
But it is still too early to judge. Ahn Eun-jin, who appeared in "My Dearest" was also embroiled in controversy at the beginning, but in the second half, she received favorable reviews and played a role as a driving force for ratings.
In "My Dearest", a human historical melodrama about the love of lovers and the vitality of the people during the Manchu War of 1636, Ahn Eun-jin has established herself as an all-around actress who can perfectly digest historical dramas by showing off her strong acting skills that she has accumulated since previous works. The initial concern was neatly washed away.
Like Ahn Eun-jin, there are many cases where the sense of heterogeneity that was felt for a while at first becomes natural as the episode melts into the character. Viewers cause controversy based on 'miscasting' and 'performance' because it's something they're just not used to seeing.
Kim Dong-jun and Cho Yi-hyun in the recently launched "Korea-Khitan War" and "The Matchmakers" also seem to be among the examples. As a result, attention is being paid to whether the two, who received unfortunate results in the beginning, will be able to remove the label of controversy by succeeding in a historical drama challenge like Ahn Eun-jin.
