Hit Entertainment, Cello Media launch international TV channel for preschool children

Hit Entertainment and Cello Media jointly launched recently an international TV channel for preschool children. This joint venture followed Cello Media's purchase of the TV channel, called JimJam, which was initially an Italian preschool children's channel.

Cello Media manages content for Liberty Global, Europe's largest cable operator.

Hit Entertainment and Cello Media plan to broadcast various preschool children's programs on the channel, such as Hit Entertainment's flagship programs Thomas and Friends, Bob the Builder, and Fireman Sam and Pingu, as well as programs from international distributors. JimJam will also be launched on cable and satellite TV in Eastern and Western Europe by the end of this year.

Hit chief executive Bruce Steinberg said, "JimJam underpins our goal to deliver high-quality programming around the world, helping our world-class properties become an everyday part of children's lives".

Separately, Zonemedia is developing plans to launch a kids' channel in the UK, to be called Zone Superheroes. It is said to be securing the rights to cartoon brands such as Superman and Spiderman for the channel.
