The commercial cost US$5 million per second, but major companies such as Amex, Budweiser, Nike, McDonald's, and Pepsi fork out huge sums to compete for the available slots.
Hyundai said Wednesday that its ad, which shows off a feature of the Genesis that allows an owner to track its location, scored 6.9 points to rank top out of 63 commercials that aired during the Super Bowl match.
It depicts a father, played by comedian Kevin Hart, who hands the keys of his new Genesis over to a young man taking his daughter out on a date.
Hart uses the tracking function to keep tabs on his daughter and her date as they move from one location to another.
Hyundai ran four different commercials during the Super Bowl, and three of them scored in the top six.
The Super Bowl Ad Meter has been tabulated by USA Today since 1989.
LG also aired commercials during the match featuring actor Liam Neeson, while Kia advertised its K5 passenger car with actor Ryan Reynolds.
Hyundai has aired ads during Super Bowl matches for seven years except last year due to a lack of new models.
It was LG's first Super Bowl ad this year. Samsung ran commercials in 2012 and 2013 but decided they were not worth the expense.
