Incheon Airport's Extraordinary Measures For 'Excessive Security'

Incheon International Airport has prepared a manual to respond to the scene of a celebrity entry and exit about two months after the controversy over actor Byeon Woo-seok's (33) 'excessive security'.

According to the 'measures to prevent the recurrence of excessive security of famous people in the airport' received from the Incheon International Airport Corporation by a member of the Democratic Party of Korea's National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee on the 3rd, the corporation plans to enact and implement a 'detailed response manual in the event of celebrity entry and exit' this month.

In the countermeasures, the corporation diagnosed 'insufficient on-site response due to lack of information sharing' and 'insufficient control function of private security companies' as the cause of the controversy over excessive security. In other words, even if a private security company conducts security activities inside the airport, it does not share information with the airport, and the police are in charge of managing these companies, making it difficult for the corporation to directly sanction them.

According to the newly prepared manual, if less than 300 to 500 people are concentrated due to the entry and exit of celebrities, the airport police team will control the site and maintain order. If more than 500 people flock, the airport police team will be able to actively secure passenger safety and strengthen on-site control.

If a private security company acts inappropriately, the corporation will be restrained at the scene and will be required to report it to the airport police. A policy has also been established to actively sue and file charges in case of serious illegal activities such as damage to facilities.

Byeon Woo-seok, who was reborn as a 'popular actor' through the cable channel tvN drama "Lovely Runner" which ended in May this year, was embroiled in controversy over excessive security in the process of leaving the country for an Asian fan meeting tour on July 12th. At that time, as fans flocked to the airport to see Byeon Woo-seok, articles and videos spread on the Internet saying that the security company controlled the gate to block the crowd, shot flashes at lounge passengers, and inspected tickets.
