India to air the country's 1st Korean TV program

As the first Korean TV program, 'Haeshin (Emperor of The Sea)' makes an inroad into the Indian market.
Global Strategy Team of KBS revealed that India's state-run broadcaster DDI (Doordarshan) has agreed to air "Haeshin" or "Emperor of The Sea" on its main channel DD-1 in either prime time or semi-prime time next month.
Total 51 episodes dubbed in Hindi will be broadcast. The drama depicts the life of General Jang Bo-go of Korea's unified Shilla era during the ninth century.
With a population of over 1.1 billion, India has a huge market called 'Bollywood (Bombay+Hollyhood)' and shows outstanding growth in the IT industry as well. To this end, there is unlimited potential to export broadcasting contents.
Because of this, the Korean territorial broadcasters such as KBS, MBC and SBS have been making efforts to export to India, the enormous market for contents.
PD Kim Sin-Il of Global Strategy Team of KBS said, "It is indeed significant for us to export "Haeshin" or "Emperor of The Sea" to India which is rising to be new growth frontier in the 21st century.
It also means that we could explore 'Hallyu (Korean wave)'s core market". In the meantime, KBS has sold the drama to eight countries including China, the Philippines, Vietnam and India to earn 1.8 million dollars in revenue.
