John Park Named Envoy for Fund Against African Famine

Singer John Park has been named an honorary ambassador in the fight against poverty and disease in African countries by non-governmental organizations and the Korea International Cooperation Agency.

Park will join efforts to support a fund that levies a tax on international flights and uses the proceeds to help impoverished Africans.

The fund is raised by charging a W1,000 (US$1=W1,131) tax on each passenger who takes an outbound flight overseas. Since 2007, the fund has raised W15 billion a year on average.
