According to a report by Sports Chosun on the 12th, Jung Gun-joo is expected to star as the male lead in "M: Reboot", directed by Im Dae-woong, alongside Jung Chae-yeon.
A representative from Jung Gun-joo's agency told Sports Chosun, "He has received the offer and is positively reviewing it".
"M: Reboot" is a reinterpretation of the 1994 MBC summer horror special miniseries "M - Drama" returning more than 30 years after the original aired. At the time, "M - Drama" caused a major sensation by addressing the controversial social issue of abortion. Actress Shim Eun-ha also drew attention for taking on a villain role, and the drama achieved remarkable ratings, peaking at 50% and averaging 38.6%. The story was later adapted into a musical in 2022.
Director Im Dae-woong is well known for his work in the horror and thriller genres, including films such as "To Sir, With Love", "Horror Stories", "The Guest", "House of the Disappeared", and "Tastes of Horror". In recent years, he has expanded into television dramas with projects like "Midnight Horror: Six Nights", "Night Has Come", and "Bitch X Rich - Season 2".
The script will be written by Lee Jung-eun-V and Hong Eun-mi-I, who previously worked on films such as "Missing Woman" and "Hidden Face".
The female lead will be played by Jung Chae-yeon, a former member of I.O.I. She has reportedly completed her script review, confirmed her appearance, and is preparing for filming.
Born in 1995, Jung Gun-joo made his debut in 2017 and first gained recognition through web dramas. He later stood out in the MBC series "Extraordinary You" and has since built his filmography with roles in dramas such as "Oh My Baby", "Monthly Magazine Home", "The Secret Romantic Guesthouse", "Check in Hanyang", and "Way Back Love". Recently, he has also broadened his activities by joining the SBS variety show "My Little Old Boy".
"M: Reboot" is currently aiming for release later this year, with discussions underway regarding its distribution on an OTT platform.
