K-Cinema: For Horowitz (My Piano)
Published on | Source
Join us for K-Cinema this month, featuring the acclaimed 2006 film For Horowitz ("My Piano") by Director Kwon Hyeong-jin .
Pianist Ji-su (Uhm Jung-hwa) left her dreams behind for a life of modest success teaching in a small town. Surrounded by mediocrity, Ji-su accepts the mentorship of troubled youngster Gyung-min (Shin Ee-jae), whose natural musical talent holds the promise of her own lost greatness. When Gyung-min receives the opportunity that Ji-su never had, she must decide whether to hold him close, or set him free as an artist.
Blending comedy and drama, performance and narrative, For Horowitz earned Kwon Hyeong-jin the Best Director prize at Koreas Grand Bell Awards in 2007, along with nominations for Best Music, Best Screenplay, and Best Actress, for Uhm Jung-hwa.
Doors open at 6 pm for a reception with Korean refreshments. The film (108 minutes) will begin promptly at 6:30 pm, followed by a moderated discussion with KCC staff.
